Massachusetts Junior Operator License Regulations Practice Test

When approaching a four-way stop, the correct action is to go in the order that vehicles arrived at the stop. This means that the first vehicle to come to a complete stop at the intersection has the right of way and should proceed first. This rule helps to maintain an orderly flow of traffic and reduces the chances of confusion or accidents, as drivers can anticipate the movements of others based on their arrival times.

Understanding the right-of-way rules at intersections is crucial for safe driving. It is essential to approach the stop with caution, observe which vehicle arrived first, and ensure that you only proceed when it is your turn. This method of managing traffic ensures that all drivers respect the rules and each other's presence, promoting safety for everyone involved.

In contrast, other options such as proceeding through regardless of stop order, responding to traffic signals (which do not apply at a four-way stop), or exiting the intersection due to obstructions do not align with safe driving practices and can lead to confusion and potential accidents.
